Help & Volunteering

‘30 years ago I spent many hours in Glen Gardens with my children. Now I’m enjoying volunteering in the kiosk & catching up with people in the community’ Julie C

Get Involved

There are a number of ways to get involved with Glen Gardens.

To join our brilliant and enthusiastic volunteer groups or for more information please use our become a friend form or email us at friends@glengardens.org

Gate Locking

After a period of not being locked after dark, as of 1st November 2016, the park gates were once again locked overnight thanks to the Friends of Glen Gardens.

We organise a rota of fantastic local volunteers to unlock the gates by 8:00am and lock again at dusk, 9pm throughout the summer.

The locking time is displayed on the notice boards in the park, it is also posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Follow us to be kept up to date.

Volunteer Groups

We have a number of enthusiastic friends who help maintain areas of the gardens.

We are always welcoming new friends to get involved with the gardens and events and have fun socialising while enjoying the lovely surroundings.

Gardening

Our Gardening Group volunteers do a fantastic job of pruning, weeding, edging, clearing the fallen leaves and many other valuable gardening jobs. You don’t need any experience just enthusiasm! We provide everything you need in the way of tools. Our wonderful Gardening coordinator Adi is on hand with her plant knowledge, encouragement and an endless list of jobs!

They meet by the Green Flag 10am - 12noon every Saturday March - November.

The Mosaic Garden Group meet behind the children's play area on a Tuesday 1:30-3:30pm (March - Nov).

The Kiosk

To bring the community together to enjoy the gardens and meet friends old and new we have a kiosk open from 6th April to 30th September.

The Kiosk is open Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday 2.30-4.30pm serving hot drinks and cakes. Except Bank Holidays when it will be open Sat/Sun/Mon but closed on the Tuesday.

Could you volunteer and help serve in the kiosk?

Baking

We need homemade goodies to serve in our kiosk. You can claim back any expenses. You will need to be health & safety checked by York Council. For more information on the health & safety requirements please email us friends@glengardens.org

Events

Our organised events are growing in popularity and we need help running them. They are usually twice a year.

Litter Picking

To keep our gardens clean and tidy we have a team of litter pickers. CYC provide full H&S guidance, bags & litter pickers.
